How AROA STET Works
Tailored Support for Children Who Are Unable To Attend School
We specialise in understanding the needs of children experiencing burnout and placement breakdown, often understood as Emotional-Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA).
We work with the family and key professionals to understand the child, their interests, needs, and strengths, and we provide bespoke education, highly tailored to therapeutic support for mental health recovery and re-engagement.

Referral Process
Parents, carers, local authorities, or schools can refer a child to AROA STET. Once the referral is accepted, we arrange a consultation with one of our Educational Psychologists or Team Managers to fully understand the child’s needs and create the best plan for their support.

Personalised Support Plan
After the consultation, a Consultant Mentor is assigned to oversee the child’s programme. A First Stage Consultation sets out the plan, introduces the SEND Mentor, and defines the transition phase.
The SEND Mentor works directly with the child both at home and in the community, ensuring continuous support throughout their journey.
Ongoing Support & Development
At AROA STET, we don’t stop once the plan is in place. Our SEND Mentors receive regular supervision and oversight from their designated Consultant Mentor and Educational Psychologist ensuring constant monitoring and reviewing of progress.
All of our SEND Mentors are highly trained and experienced within the areas of SEND impacting children who experience EBSNA. Our SEND Mentors also often have lived / personal experience of SEND ensuring thorough understanding of your young person and family.
We work with the child, family and other key adults to facilitate engagement in activities of interest to the child, focusing on trusting relationships and a sense of safety. When ready, we also connect children with relevant community activities and wider professional support when needed. Our team attends MDTs, EHCP Annual Reviews, and contributes to review reports to keep everything on track.
Our Approach:
Helping Children Re-Engage with Learning
